Barr Ranch Retreat, Upton County, Texas
Accommodations

The 15,000 acre Barr Ranch is a working cattle ranch. The original homestead was built in 1906 and has been completely renovated for the comfort of our guests. Our goal during the renovations was to provide modern comfort and yet Photo - Bedroommaintain the flavor of ranch life at the turn of the century. Antique Texas maps, western prints and ranch artifacts are seen throughout the three bedroom, fully furnished and tastefully decorated former headquarters.

Two of the three bedrooms are furnished with queen beds. The third bedroom is furnished with a full size bed and private reading area. Quality linens and pillows in each of the bedrooms encourage guests to rest in comfort. Like most homes of this era, the bathroom was an afterthought. Although small, the bathroom has a full tub with a shower and is stocked with plush towels and necessities. At the turn of the century, all building materials were shipped to west Texas at considerable costs. Ranchers did not waste lumber on non-essential spaces. As a result, the house does not have any hallways and the bathroom is only accessed by going through the third bedroom.

Photo - Kitchen and BarThere is a dining area and a full kitchen supplied with a coffee maker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans and essential staples. The refrigerator is stocked with bottled water, milk, juice and soft drinks to compliment the continental breakfast. The living room is pleasantly furnished and has a TV/VCR/DVD. (There is no TV reception so feel free to bring your favorite tape/DVD or we can provide many titles from our library.) A screened in porch with chairs and a table faces the pond and is a perfect spot to watch wildlife in the mornings and evenings. Outdoor cooks will enjoy the fire pit inside the fenced yard.

The house can accommodate 5 people.
